Profile

Me and my microphone Maiko grew up in Papara near Taharuu beach break with most of the famous tahitian surfers : Raimana Van Bastolaer, the Drollet brothers, Manoa and Marama, Hira Teriinatoofa, and the new breed Michel Bourez.
He went to the same schools as some of them and has even been Manoa’s classmate for one year.

As he got injured by a surfer on the head at the age of 7, he evolved during many years with a bodyboard and still dropkneerides a lot. He is definitely sea-addicted.

Working as a software engineer after having graduated from a microelectronics and automation degree, he had been involved in computer art-related projects (motion and web design) but still got thrilled by this old well-known art called photography (ouéé genrrre… sorry : - ) ). These last years, he spent some of his spare time refining his photography skills and posted his everyday-life/surf/polynesian-related photos on haumaru.com/photoblog since 2005. He has submitted his first surf photos to Trip Surf Magazine, Fluir Magazine, and some international bodyboard magazines.

About HauMaru.com

All photos and design are the property of Maiko MOU. He has spent many, many hours learning the intricacies of web designing, coding, photography and HauMaru.com is one of the results of his work.

The name “Hau Maru” comes from the fact that Maiko’s Grand-Mother is used to have a nap in a cooler place under the mango tree of the garden : She was saying all the time in tahitian language “Mea hau maru i raroe i te tumu vi !” Cool place, cool atmosphere, that was it !
